Tillery Unit 1 Dissolved Oxygen Runner Replacement
Mount Gilead, North Carolina
Crowder replaced the existing dissolved oxygen runner with a new, modernized runner that will enrich the discharge water with oxygen. This helps the aquatic species. This will also help the performance the hydro turbine to allow more water flow to generate power to the grid.
A monorail beam was used to help with installation, which was fabricated in our own fabrication shop at Crowder Industrial Construction.
Specific challenges to overcome on this project were summer peak-power demands and owner-supplied equipment that had to be modified to ensure proper installation.
