Plant Hammond BESS
Juliette, Georgia
Crowder was selected as the EPC Partner to design, procure and construct a 57.5MW Battery Energy Storage System using Tesla Megapack 2 batteries for Southern Company in Georgia. This project was installed at a pre-existing power generation site of a retired coal plant. Though the batteries were procured by the client, Crowder handled design and procurement of the balance of materials and equipment including medium voltage transformers.
The project has involved ove1300 CY of structural excavation, 1000 CY of concrete, 1 ton of rebar, 12,000 feet of underground conduit, 9,000 feet of grounding, 68,000 feet of cabling and over 1600 terminations. At the height of equipment setting, Crowder was able to safely and effectively orchestrate the setting of between 14 and 15 Megapack batteries per day, avoiding any traffic issues or bottlenecks. Crowder also managed instrumentation and controls, while supporting Tesla personnel during on-site commissioning. Crowder also performed all medium voltage pressure testing, and transformer phase rotation testing.
