Martinsville Landfill Gas-to-Energy

The City of
Martinsville selected Crowder as the Design-Build Contractor to provide and
install gas cleaning equipment and generation equipment required to
convert methane gas into electricity. Crowder’s scope of work
included but was not limited to the following: GE JGC 320
containerized generator sets, concrete pad for generator pad, mounted
transformer 480V/12.4kV, gas conditioning system with trane chiller
equipment, piping valves & appurtenances to generation system,
monitoring from existing SCADA system, integration and control from
existing SCADA system including remote control functions, and a
security fence surrounding site. This project is estimated to save
the City of Martinsville an average of $300,000 annually by reducing
the amount of money spent for electricity. Other benefits included
carbon credits that are earned by reducing the amount of carbon
dioxide released and renewable credits. Crowder successfully
completed this project ahead of schedule and within budget.
