HRSD Selects Crowder for CMAR Project in Virginia Beach

Crowder Construction Company has been selected by the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) as Construction Manager of the $37.5 million Atlantic Treatment Plant Thermal Hydrolysis Process (THP) and Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) Receiving Station project.
HRSD owns and operates the Atlantic Treatment Plant (ATP) located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The ATP has a permitted design capacity of 54 MGD and is operated as a high rate activated sludge (HRAS) plant to achieve biological oxygen demand (BOD) and total suspended solids (TSS) removal.
The primary objective of the Project is to produce a high-quality Class A biosolids product and to provide for future increases in solids handling capability without increasing digester capacity, and provide for a new FOG receiving station to feed the THP.
Cambi has been selected as a sole-source supplier for the project’s THP, which makes this project the second Cambi process installation in the United States.
Construction is scheduled to begin June, 2017 and is expected to be completed by August, 2020. Crowder looks forward to partnering with HDR to deliver the project with the greatest level of quality and the highest safety standards possible.
