Crowder to Support Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow Program Through HRSD D-B Project
04.17.2017
APEX, NC, April 17, 2017—Crowder Construction Company takes pleasure in announcing they have been selected as the Design-Builder, with its design consultant Hazen and Sawyer, for the Sustainable Water Phase 3 - Demonstration Facility Project. The project, which is being developed by Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD), will be constructed at the Nansemond Treatment Plant in Suffolk, VA.
This project was developed as part of an effort to replenish the
Virginia Coastal Plain aquifer through the implementation of the
Sustainable Water Initiative
for Tomorrow (SWIFT) Program. The Demonstration Facility project is
the first step towards implementation of the SWIFT program which will
include full-scale
facilities across several of HRSD’s treatment plants. The program
will protect groundwater supplies, reduce nutrients discharged to the
Chesapeake
Bay, support economic development, mitigate land subsidence, block
saltwater intrusion, increase available oyster grounds, and provide
drought resilience
for more than 25 percent of all Virginians.
HRSD broke ground on the Demonstration Facility on March 21, 2017
during a multi-benefit celebration in Suffolk. The Swift Research Center
is expected
to open April 2018.
