Crowder Speaks to Engineers of Tomorrow

11.15.2017

Crowder Construction had the pleasure of participating in Riverside High School’s Fall Engineering Speaker Day event October 27 in Durham, NC.

Crowder’s own Jared Sperry (assistant project manager), William Long (engineering manager) and Sam Guy Jr. (millwright), who are currently working at the Brown and William Upgrade project in Durham, NC, gave a presentation to about 150 students enrolled in the high school’s engineering program, detailing what it would be like working for a company like Crowder in the engineering and construction industry. Both craft and management employees participated in the presentation to highlight the wide variety of careers that construction offers.

The members of Crowder spoke about their own experiences to give the students a glimpse of what to expect as they begin their own engineering and construction careers. Students were very pleased and excited to have the opportunity to engage with individual project managers, project engineers and site personnel from Crowder.

“I enjoyed all the presentations but I think my favorite was the group from Crowder Construction,” said one student in the engineering program. “I liked the fact that they had three different people from three different positions share their experiences. It showed that there are multiple options even in one field, which was cool.”

Riverside’s program is part of the national initiative Project Lead the Way. This program was created to address the country’s need for more leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
