CWS Greenlights Crowder to Begin Construction on Plum Island CMAR Project

31-May-2016

Crowder Construction Company has been approved to move forward on Charleston Water System’s (CWS) Plum Island Water Pollution Control Program (WPCP) – Phase 3 Capital Improvements project. Crowder was selected as the Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMAR) for this project in May of 2015.

Crowder, working collaboratively with the project’s design engineer, Hazen and Sawyer, delivered a Guaranteed Maximum Price to complete major modifications to the 36 MGD Plum Island Plant. CWS approved the proposal which will ensure long term reliability and improved operational performance. The $60 million Capital Improvements Project will upgrade structures, piping and valves. Process equipment will be rehabilitated or replaced and a new preliminary treatment facility will be constructed without affecting ongoing plant operations.

Construction is scheduled to begin in March with an estimated completion date of fall 2018.

Mark Cline, CWS Capital Projects Officer, stated, "Charleston Water System is pleased and excited to be working with Crowder and Hazen and Sawyer on the utility's first CMAR construction project."
